The Westchester County community is mourning the loss of Joan A. Mosca, a 92-year-old resident of New Rochelle, whose disappearance ended in tragedy after she was found deceased inside her overturned vehicle following a missing person search.
According to the New York State Police, the investigation began at approximately 7:30 p.m. on June 30 after Mosca’s family reported her missing. She had last been seen around 4:00 p.m. departing a park-and-ride lot near Exit 4 of Interstate 684 in Mount Kisco. Authorities said she was observed driving her gray Toyota Camry southbound on the interstate before contact with her was lost.
Concerned for her safety, law enforcement agencies launched a coordinated search of the Interstate 684 corridor. Troopers and emergency responders searched likely travel routes, exits, and areas where a vehicle could have left the roadway, particularly given Mosca’s age and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
At approximately 10:30 p.m., investigators located her vehicle about 30 feet off the shoulder of southbound Interstate 684 near mile marker 0.9. The Toyota Camry had overturned, prompting an immediate emergency response.
First responders discovered Joan A. Mosca inside the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The New York State Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. While preliminary findings indicate it was a single-vehicle collision, officials have not yet released an official cause of the accident. Investigators are examining roadway conditions, vehicle dynamics, and any potential mechanical or environmental factors that may have contributed to the incident. Accident reconstruction specialists are also reviewing evidence from the scene to establish the sequence of events.
Family members were notified after Mosca’s identity was confirmed, bringing a heartbreaking conclusion to the search efforts. Her death has left loved ones and members of the New Rochelle community grieving the loss of a woman whose life spanned more than nine decades.
As friends, neighbors, and family reflect on her life, they remember Joan A. Mosca as a longtime member of the New Rochelle community. Her passing has prompted an outpouring of sympathy as those who knew her mourn her loss and extend their condolences to her family.
Funeral and memorial service arrangements have not been publicly announced. The family is expected to share additional information at a later date.
Heartfelt condolences are extended to the Mosca family and all who are mourning Joan A. Mosca’s passing. May they find comfort in cherished memories and strength in the support of their community during this difficult time. May she rest in peace.
