SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Bette Reilly, 47, of Westbrook, was found dead Sunday after a search near Pleasant Hill Road, according to the Scarborough Police Department.
Police and firefighters responded at approximately 2:30 p.m. to the Pleasant Hill Driving Range, located at 132 Pleasant Hill Road, after receiving a report of a missing 47-year-old woman. Reilly was identified as the individual authorities were attempting to locate.
According to investigators, Reilly was last seen walking along the edge of a nearby pond before she could no longer be located. As the search expanded, the Maine Warden Service Dive Team was called to assist emergency responders.
Dive team members searched the pond and recovered Reilly’s body from approximately nine feet of water. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities said Reilly’s body was transported to the Maine Office of Chief Medical Examiner, where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death.
Officials have not released additional information regarding the circumstances that led to Reilly entering the water. The Scarborough Police Department, in coordination with the Maine Office of Chief Medical Examiner, continues to investigate the incident.
At this time, authorities have not indicated whether foul play is suspected. Additional information is expected to be released as the investigation and medical examination continue.
Reilly’s death has left family, friends, and members of the Westbrook and Scarborough communities mourning her loss as they remember her life and legacy.
