Barbara J. Shriver was born on December 15, 1932, in Sharon, Ohio, to Byron and Bernice Murrey Marquis. Raised in rural Ohio, she grew up with strong values of hard work, compassion, and devotion to family—principles that would guide her throughout her life.
Her early years remained close to her heart, and she often spoke fondly of her upbringing, lifelong friendships, and the close-knit community that shaped her character.
A Loving Marriage and Family Life
One of the most meaningful chapters of Barbara’s life was her marriage to her husband, Dale Shriver. Together, they built a home rooted in love, respect, and shared memories that lasted through decades of marriage until Dale’s passing in December 2014.
The couple enjoyed traveling and creating memories that Barbara treasured for the rest of her life. Family members recall her deep appreciation for those experiences and the joy she found in spending time with loved ones. She devoted herself fully to her children and helped create a home filled with warmth, tradition, and lasting connection.
Faith and Service at Sharon Moravian Church
Faith served as a cornerstone of Barbara’s life. She was a devoted member of Sharon Moravian Church, where she served faithfully for many years in various roles and organizations, including the Sharon Moravian Women’s Fellowship, the Martha Housman Circle, and the Ladies Aid.
She also served as a Deiner, offering her time and care wherever needed within the church community. Friends and fellow members remember her as someone who quietly stepped forward to help, never seeking recognition, but always committed to service.
Her life reflected a belief that faith is best expressed through action, compassion, and service to others.
Service Beyond the Church
Barbara’s commitment to community extended beyond her church involvement. She served as secretary for the Tuscarawas Warwick Senior Citizens, where she supported programs and activities that benefited older adults in the area.

Barbara is survived by her children, Dean Shriver and his companion Tracie Burton of Zanesville, and Pamela Shriver and her husband Tony Saens of Oregon. She is also survived by her sister Beverly Watson of Alliance.
Her legacy continues through her grandchildren—Ashley Shriver, Tom Shriver and his wife Michelle, Tiffany Berglund, and Anessa Coffman and her husband Kevin—as well as six great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy in her later years. She is also remembered fondly by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dale, her parents, and her sisters Irene, Gertrude, Edna, and Virginia.
Funeral Services and Remembrance
Visitation was held on June 28 at Toland Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory in Dover, followed by a graveside service on June 29 at Sharon Church Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Denny Rohn. Loved ones gathered to celebrate her life and reflect on her enduring legacy of faith, service, and love.
